Fall Foliage and Leading Lines with Bob Coates

Text and Photos by Bob Coates

Like many photographers, I always enjoy photographing fall foliage. My local Professional Photographers of America Affiliate Arizona PPA has been assigning a weekly challenge, so I was boondocking (also known as car-camping) in Flagstaff, AZ recently.

This particular week’s challenge was leading lines. For the images below, I was using the Olympus 8mm Fisheye lens, which has a very wide field of view. I wanted to include and highlight the shadows in the foreground, so the lens needed to be low, REALLY low. The Platypod made it possible to shoot the scene as I envisioned it!

PS - It turned out to be one of the winners that week!
