Cityscapes and Chicago-Henge with Bob and Dawn Davis

"This year we decided that we would venture off into the city of Chicago to capture (what is known by many) as Chicago-Henge. The city of Chicago is meticulously laid out in a grid system. For those of you that have not visited the city, the named streets run North and South, while most numbered streets run East and West. During the Spring and Fall Equinox, the sun rises and sets with remarkable precision, perfectly aligning with the East and West views of Chicago. The sun shines through the canyon of buildings, much like how the sun shines through Stone-Henge."
"Shooting directly into the sun can be a tricky task. For this reason, I use a 7-shot auto bracket sequence (beginning at -,0,+) underexposed, on exposure and overexposed. In post production, I combine the images in Adobe Lightroom Photomerge HDR."
"I often use the Platypod and Platyball as a secondary point of view, allowing me to shoot the scene with two different cameras and lenses as to maximize the quality of my final captures."
"To finish off the day, Dawn and I ventured through the city seeking inspiration for a few other cityscape style images. Overall, it was a successful and fun day in the city."
